Nagpur: In a significant action against the illegal sale of hazardous kite-flying material, the Social Security Branch of Nagpur Crime Branch seized government-banned monofil gold nylon manja worth ₹30,000 from the Shantinagar police station limits on Monday evening.
The operation was conducted between 4:30 pm and 6:40 pm on January 5, 2026, in the Baraipura–Lalganga area. Police have registered Crime No. 02/2026 under Sections 5 and 15 of the Environment Protection Act, 1986, along with Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
According to police officials, 15 rolls of banned nylon manja, known to be dangerous to humans, birds, and the environment, were recovered during the raid. The seized material was confiscated legally in the presence of two panch witnesses and later handed over to the duty officer of Shantinagar Police Station for further investigation.
The police have identified Ketan Mahesh Ugemuge as the wanted accused in the case, and efforts are underway to trace and arrest him.
The action was carried out under the guidance of Police Inspector Rahul Shire, with the team including API Shivaji Nanaware, WHC Arti Chouhan, NPC Sheshrao Raut, and constables Ashwin Mange, Sameer Sheikh, Kunal Masram, and Kunal Bodkhe.
Police have reiterated their appeal to citizens to avoid using banned nylon manja and report illegal storage or sale, as such materials pose a serious threat to public safety and wildlife.
