Nagpur: In a major preventive action aimed at curbing habitual offenders, Ajni Police have detained a 54-year-old history-sheeter with 51 criminal cases and lodged him in Central Jail.
The accused, Chandramani alias Hiralal Meshram, a resident of Siddharth Nagar on Manewada Ring Road, has an extensive criminal record spanning illegal arms possession, illicit liquor trade, gambling operations, and repeated violations of externment orders.
Despite being externed for one year and facing multiple preventive proceedings between 2021 and 2024, Meshram allegedly continued his unlawful activities. He was also booked in four separate cases for operating illegal gambling dens.
Following a detailed proposal submitted by Senior Police Inspector Nitinchandra Rajkumar, the Police Commissioner sanctioned his preventive detention. Meshram has been lodged in Nagpur Central Jail and will be shifted to Nashik Central Prison shortly.
The action was carried out under the supervision of ACP Narendra Hiware and senior police officials as part of an intensified drive against hardened criminals in the city.
