Nagpur: In a major preventive crackdown ahead of Holi, the Zone 3 Police, led by DCP Rahul Madane, have taken action against 280 identified criminals to ensure peaceful and incident-free celebrations across the city. The initiative, launched under Section 163(2) of the Maharashtra Police Act, aims to curb disturbances, strengthen public safety and prevent law-and-order issues during the festive period.

According to police officials, Holi often brings a surge in public gatherings, street activity and late-night celebrations, which can escalate into disorderly behaviour. To prevent such incidents, the police compiled a list of repeat offenders, history-sheeters and individuals with criminal records. Preventive measures include externment orders, strict surveillance and legal restrictions on movement.

The anti-social elements have been instructed to stay away from city limits between March 1 and March 4, 2026, covering the peak Holi period. The action list spans multiple police station jurisdictions, including Kotwali, Ganeshpeth, Tehsil, Pachpaoli and Shantinagar. Officials state that all 280 individuals were selected based on criminal history and the potential to disrupt Holi festivities or threaten public peace.

DCP Madane stated that the primary objective is to prevent group clashes, harassment, hooliganism, gambling, illegal gatherings and other high-risk activities commonly reported during Holi. To reinforce safety, police have increased patrolling, intensified monitoring and deployed additional personnel across sensitive and high-footfall locations.

The police have also appealed to citizens to celebrate responsibly and cooperate with law enforcement throughout the festival. Residents are encouraged to promptly report any suspicious activity or disturbances to ensure a safe and secure environment.

With these preventive actions in place, Nagpur Police expect smoother crowd management, reduced criminal incidents and safer Holi celebrations across the city.
