Nagpur: Jaripatka Police have arrested an 18-year-old youth for brandished a sword at his mother and vandalized their home after being denied money to purchase a mobile phone.

The accused, identified as Tanush alias Tanya Anil Khandekar, reportedly demanded Rs 10,000 from his mother, Sona Khandekar, on Sunday around 8 p.m. Sona, citing financial difficulties, refused his request, which enraged Tanya. He began damaging household items and verbally abusing his mother.

In a fit of rage, Tanya retrieved a sword hidden in the house, threatening to kill his mother. He also hurled the sword at a cupboard and issued further threats, stating he would harm both his mother and sister if his demand was not met. He then left the house.

The victim immediately approached Jaripatka police station with the sword and filed a complaint. Cops have confiscated the weapon and registered a case against Tanya for his threatening behavior and vandalism
