Nagpur: In a significant step towards urban transformation, the long-awaited redevelopment of Mor Bhavan and Ganeshpeth bus terminals in Nagpur is set to become a reality. Both stations will be developed as star-rated facilities with modern infrastructure and advanced amenities, according to a decision taken by the state government.
Guardian Minister and Maharashtra Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule announced the decision during a review meeting of various development projects held at the Planning Bhavan on Saturday, April 5. He added that six new large-scale commercial complexes will also be constructed across Nagpur city on land belonging to the Zilla Parishad and Nagpur Municipal Corporation. These facilities aim to provide new business opportunities to local entrepreneurs.
Bawankule emphasized the importance of maintaining the highest quality standards in development works and instructed officials not to compromise under any circumstances.
The meeting was attended by Municipal Commissioner Abhijit Chaudhari, Zilla Parishad CEO Vinayak Mahamuni, Managing Director of Maharashtra State Infrastructure Development Corporation Brijesh Dixit, Additional Commissioner Ajay Charthankar, Vasumana Pant, Vaishnavi B., Deputy Commissioner Milind Meshram, Chief Engineer Leena Upadhyay, Town Planner Ruturaj Jadhav, and Central Jail Superintendent Vaibhav Age, along with other concerned department officials.
Central Jail to Be Developed Near Koradi Naka:
During the meeting, a detailed review was conducted for the upcoming Central Jail project near Koradi Naka. Minister Bawankule directed that the jail be constructed in accordance with court directives and government guidelines, ensuring adequate rehabilitation and skill training facilities for inmates.
He instructed that a blueprint be prepared by reputed architects and that concerned departments complete all technical and administrative formalities on time. The Jail, NMRDA, and Town Planning Departments have been asked to conduct a joint inspection of the land and submit a detailed report. A district-level prison committee has been established to oversee the planning and implementation.
The NMRDA has identified a suitable location on Koradi Naka Road, with provisions for accommodating up to 2,000 inmates.
Performing Arts Gallery and Convention Centre to Come Up at London Street:
As part of the Orange City Street Project, a performing arts gallery and convention centre will be developed near London Street. Minister Bawankule directed officials to prepare a project plan immediately, which will be finalized after a presentation to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. He emphasized the need to utilize open space creatively and speed up the tendering process.
Modern Markets to Be Developed at Six Locations in the City:
Considering Nagpur’s rapid urban expansion, the government has decided to construct state-of-the-art commercial complexes in six key locations to boost local business opportunities. Redevelopment work at Santra Market, Netaji Market, Dahi Bazaar, Itwari Market, Flower Market, and Deeg Dispensary, Dharampeth will be completed within the next three months. Bawankule instructed all departments to coordinate and ensure the inclusion of citizen-friendly facilities.
Development Projects Planned on Zilla Parishad Lands in Ajni, Zingabai Takli, and Badkas Square:
Three major development projects will also be undertaken on Zilla Parishad-owned land at Mauja Ajni (9,749 sq.m.), Zingabai Takli (24,432 sq.m.), and Badkas Square (612 sq.m.). These projects aim to provide business opportunities to women from self-help groups and other entrepreneurs while creating sustainable income sources for the Zilla Parishad. Bawankule directed the ZP to complete all initial planning and formalities without delay.
