Nagpur Police Destroy Drugs Worth ₹2.19 Crore on International Day Against Drug Abuse Under Operation Thunder

Nagpur: Marking the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, the Nagpur City Police destroyed narcotic substances worth more than ₹2.19 crore under the ongoing Operation Thunder campaign.


Acting under the guidance of Nagpur Police Commissioner Ravinder Singal, the city police destroyed narcotics seized in 120 criminal cases registered across various police stations under the Nagpur Police Commissionerate.


According to police officials, a total of 484 kilograms of seized narcotic substances, valued at ₹2,19,11,653, were destroyed in accordance with legal provisions. The narcotics were incinerated at Maharashtra Enviro Power Limited, an authorised facility located in the Butibori MIDC, which has been approved by the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) for the safe disposal of hazardous substances.


The destruction process was carried out under strict supervision and security in the presence of senior police officials, including:


  • Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) Rajendra Dabhade
  • Deputy Commissioner of Police (Detection) Deepak Agrawal
  • Deputy Commissioner of Police (Headquarters) Rahul Makanikar
  • Deputy Superintendent of Police, Crime Branch, Mahadev Bharsakade
  • Police Inspector Shubhangi Mohade
  • Maharashtra Enviro Power Limited’s authorised officer Prashant Maske
  • Security Officer Revanath Thakre
  • Police Inspector Gajanan Gulhane and personnel of the Anti-Narcotics Squad, Crime Branch


The initiative highlights the Nagpur Police’s commitment to combating drug trafficking and ensuring that seized narcotics do not re-enter illegal circulation. The destruction drive on the International Day Against Drug Abuse also reinforces the police department’s ongoing efforts to create a drug-free society through sustained enforcement and awareness campaigns under Operation Thunder.
