Nagpur: A tragic chain of events spanning Nagpur and Bengaluru culminated in the death of a young man and left his mother critically injured after an alleged suicide attempt at a hotel in Nagpur. The deceased has been identified as Suraj, while his mother Jayanti is undergoing treatment in a critical condition. Both are natives of Bengaluru, according to police.
Suraj had been married only a few months ago. On Thursday, his wife allegedly died by suicide in Bengaluru, triggering serious allegations of dowry-related harassment against her in-laws. The woman’s relatives staged a protest outside a local police station in Bengaluru, demanding the registration of a case and strict action against those responsible.
While the agitation was underway in Bengaluru, Jayanti and Suraj travelled to Nagpur and checked into a local hotel. Police said that during their stay, the mother-son duo allegedly attempted suicide inside the hotel room. Suraj died during treatment, while Jayanti was immediately shifted to a hospital, where her condition remains critical.
Nagpur police have registered an accidental death case and launched an investigation into the incident. Officials are also in contact with their counterparts in Bengaluru to examine possible links between the Nagpur tragedy and the alleged dowry death case.
Further probe is on to determine the exact sequence of events and legal accountability in both matters.
