Nagpur: Cops Arrest 58-Year-Old Man for Carrying Deadly Weapon in Kotwali Area

Nagpur: The Kotwali Police have arrested a 58-year-old man for illegally carrying a sharp weapon near Ayachit Mandir bus stop late at night.


Around 12.15 am on August 28, 2025, a police patrol team received information about a man creating a nuisance near Lakadpul in Kotwali. Acting on the tip, police rushed to the spot and detained the suspect, who was found shouting and creating chaos.


A search conducted in the presence of witnesses revealed a steel knife worth around ₹100 tucked in his waistband. The accused was identified as Naresh Sitaramji Sonawane (58), resident of Lakadpul, Kotwali, Nagpur.


Police said Sonawane was carrying the knife with the intention of committing a cognizable offence, thereby violating prohibitory orders. A case has been registered against him under Sections 4, 25 of the Indian Arms Act and Section 135 of the Maharashtra Police Act. He has been taken into custody, and further investigation is underway.
