Nagpur: Two young men sustained serious injuries in a late-night road accident reported in the MIDC traffic division limits on the intervening night of December 31 and January 1, ahead of New Year celebrations. Prompt action by traffic police ensured timely medical assistance and helped save their lives.

According to police sources, the incident occurred around 12.20 am on January 1, 2026, near Aathwa Mile, Nagpur. While patrolling the MIDC Traffic Division area on New Year’s Eve, police personnel received telephonic information about a serious accident near the Defence Gate at Aathwa Mile. Acting swiftly, a team led by Senior Police Inspector Sarang Mirashi, along with Police Constable Ravikant Singh and driver Police Constable Sachin Barsagade, rushed to the spot in a patrol vehicle.

Preliminary investigation revealed that a Maruti Suzuki WagonR (MH-40-BE-3461) was crossing the road from the Defence Gate towards the Aathwa Mile cutting when it was hit head-on by a speeding TVS Raider motorcycle (MH-31-FY-2988) coming from the Nagpur–Amravati Road side. The impact was severe, causing the motorcycle rider and pillion to be thrown onto the road.

The injured have been identified as Rithik Tarachand Lute (25) and Jay Rajesh Ghodeswar (25). Both suffered serious injuries and were bleeding profusely. The accident was immediately reported to the control room and Wadi Police Station.

As no ambulance or private vehicle was available at the spot, the traffic police team shifted both injured youths in a government vehicle to Mayo Hospital for urgent treatment. Due to timely medical intervention, doctors were able to stabilize their condition and save their lives.

The swift response and humane action by the MIDC Traffic Division police personnel have been widely appreciated.
