Man Booked for Cruel Confinement of Cattle Meant for Slaughter in Pachpaoli, Nagpur

Nagpur: In a case of animal cruelty, Pachpaoli Police arrested a 31-year-old man for illegally confining cattle intended for slaughter in inhumane conditions in Azad Nagar, Teka, during the early hours of June 4.


Between 3:40 am and 6:20 am, while patrolling the area, police received reliable information about bovines being held for slaughter in a shed owned by one Imran Qureshi. Acting swiftly, the team conducted a raid and found 12 bovines, including calves and adult cattle, packed in a cramped space without food or water.


The animals were allegedly confined by Mohsin Qureshi (31), resident of House No. 65, Siddharth Nagar, Nai Basti Teka, Pachpaoli, with the intent of slaughter. Upon interrogation, the accused admitted to the crime.


All 12 animals were rescued and sent to a local gaushala (cow shelter), while the materials found at the site were valued at around ₹1.81 lakh. A case has been registered under Sections 5, 5(b), 9 of the Maharashtra Animal Preservation Act, 1976 (as amended in 1995) and Section 11 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960. The accused has been arrested, and further investigation is underway.


The operation was conducted under the supervision of DCP Mehak Swami (Zone 3) and ACP Shweta Khade, with support from the Pachpaoli police team.
