Nagpur: In a coordinated offensive against the rising menace of synthetic drug abuse, police teams from Jaripatka and Yashodhara Nagar police stations on Thursday, May 5, apprehended four individuals in two separate operations for trafficking mephedrone (MD), a banned narcotic substance. The total seizure is valued at over ₹1.80 lakh.

In the first case, Jaripatka Police arrested two youths, identified as Hitesh Kamalkumar Bikhani of Sai Vasansah Square and Akash Jayram Kevalramani of Chawla Square. The duo, both reportedly addicted to MD, were caught with 5 grams of the drug. Acting on a tip-off, police detained the suspects and recovered the contraband during an afternoon operation on Wednesday. During interrogation, the accused admitted to using and selling MD and revealed that they procured it from an external supplier, who is now being tracked.

In a separate action, Yashodhara Nagar Police intercepted two more individuals near Patil Nagar, Bhilgaon, around 6:50 PM. Acting on reliable information, police nabbed Rajat Dilip Nannet (28) and Rakesh Rajkumar Kohale (21), recovering 15.25 grams of MD powder worth ₹1.06 lakh. Two mobile phones and a Hero Achiever motorcycle were also seized, taking the total recovery to ₹1.80 lakh. The accused confessed to possessing the drugs for both personal use and sale.

The Yashodhara Nagar operation was conducted under the supervision of DCP Niketan Kadam and ACP Satyavir Bandiwar, led by PI Ramesh Khune and his team. A case has been registered under the NDPS Act, and further investigations are ongoing to identify the larger supply chain.

These back-to-back actions highlight the growing presence of MD in urban areas and the active efforts of city police to clamp down on drug trafficking.
