Nagpur: A 20-year-old man from Jharkhand was apprehended in Pachpaoli on Saturday night with 26 swords in his possession. The incident occurred near the Baba Budhaji Nagar Gurudwara and has raised serious concerns in the area.
The accused, identified as Rupesh Biharirao, a tribal youth employed by an elderly disabled man, had reportedly been selling swords near the Gurudwara for the past two to three days. Investigations revealed that some criminals had been purchasing the weapons from him.
Acting on a tip-off, a team from Crime Branch Unit 3 and the Social Security Branch (SSB), including PI Mukund Thakare, HC Vinod Gaykavad, NPC Sheshrao Raut, PC Kunal Masram, Sameer Shekh, Nitin Wasane, under the guidance of DCP Rahul Makhnikar, conducted a raid around 1 am. Rupesh was caught red-handed selling swords outside a medical store.
Police seized 26 swords worth ₹52,000, along with the car used to transport them to Nagpur. It was discovered that the weapons were brought for sale during a recent event.
Rupesh has been charged under the Arms Act, and further investigations are underway to identify individuals involved in purchasing the weapons.
