Nagpur: On Independence Day eve, Nagpur Police seized illegally stored liquor worth ₹61,040 during raids at two houses in Ramtek Nagar under Ajni Police Station limits. Two women were booked for allegedly possessing liquor for illegal sale.
Acting on reliable information, the Escort Team conducted raids between 10.20 pm and 10.50 pm on August 14, ahead of Independence Day, at two houses in Ramtek Nagar.
During the first raid, police searched the house of Sonu Rahul Meshram (34) in Lane No. 3 and allegedly recovered 48 bottles of Imperial Blue whisky, each containing 180 ml. The bottles were reportedly concealed in a secret compartment constructed inside the bathroom wall.
In a separate raid at the house of Maya Raju Rangari (58) in Lane No. 4, police allegedly recovered 96 bottles of Royal Stag whisky, each containing 180 ml, and 105 bottles of country liquor, each containing 90 ml. Police also seized ₹21,230 in cash, allegedly linked to liquor sales.
The total value of the liquor and cash seized from both premises was estimated at ₹61,040.
The action came amid Independence Day dry day restrictions, under which the sale of liquor is prohibited. Police said both women were found allegedly possessing liquor illegally.
Separate cases were registered against the two women at Ajni Police Station under Section 65(e) of the Maharashtra Prohibition Act. Both accused, along with the seized material, were handed over to Ajni Police for further investigation.
