Nagpur: A tragic case in Ganeshpeth has led to the registration of a serious offense against a husband and his family for allegedly abetting suicide due to dowry harassment. The victim, Sana Anjum Aqeel Khan (26), had married Shoaib alias Saif Ayub Khan (30) in 2024.
According to police reports, the woman was subjected to physical and mental harassment by:
- Her husband
- Father-in-law Nasim Ayub Khan (57)
- Mother-in-law
- Sister-in-law Sameena alias Soni Anis Khan (35)
The harassment reportedly centered around demands for money from her parental home.
Unable to endure the abuse, the woman allegedly died by suicide on April 7, 2026, by hanging herself at her residence. Initially registered as an accidental death, the investigation later confirmed sustained harassment leading to suicide, prompting police to file charges under multiple sections of law, including the Dowry Prohibition Act, 1961.
Authorities have formally booked the accused, and further investigation is ongoing.
