Nagpur: The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has cancelled the food business licence of Shree Heera Sweets, a prominent sweets and savories establishment, after a dead rat was found inside its production unit in Panchpaoli during an inspection. The action has led to the complete suspension of the unit’s manufacturing and sale of food products.
According to FDA officials, a surprise inspection was carried out at the Panchpaoli production facility on July 3, during which inspectors discovered a dead rat in the food preparation area. The finding was treated as a serious breach of food safety and hygiene standards, posing a potential risk to public health.
Following the inspection, the FDA initiated proceedings against the establishment. After completing its inquiry, the department concluded that the production unit had violated provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act and related regulations. Consequently, the food business licence of Shree Heera Sweets was cancelled.
With the licence revoked, the establishment has been directed to immediately stop the production and sale of sweets, snacks and all other food products until further orders from the authorities.
The action was taken under the guidance of the Joint Commissioner of the Food and Drug Administration. FDA officials said the stringent measure reflects the department’s zero-tolerance approach towards violations of food safety norms and serves as a warning to all food business operators that any compromise with consumer health and hygiene will invite strict legal action.
