Endangered Vulture Rescued Near Kanhan Coal Mine in Nagpur

Nagpur: In a commendable effort to save wildlife, an endangered vulture was rescued near Kanhan Kandri Coal Mine on Thursday night, November 28. The large bird was spotted around 10 p.m. near a substation during routine patrolling by coal mine staff, who immediately informed members of the Wildlife Welfare Society, Kanhan.


Ashish Meshram and Bablu Mulunde, members of the society, promptly reached the site and located the massive vulture, which had a tracker attached to its body. Concerned that the bird could enter the coal mine area and face life-threatening risks, the team safely captured the vulture and contacted the Forest Department for assistance.


The bird was subsequently handed over to the Forest Department and transported to a transit treatment center for medical evaluation and care.


The rescue operation was carried out under the leadership of Chandrashekhar Borkar, Ashish Meshram, and Bablu Mulunde, along with support from other wildlife enthusiasts, including Rohit Farkase, Guddu Nehal, Ankesh, Deepak, Gopal Bisen, Manish Nandeshwar, and Pravesh Dongre. Their swift action ensured the safety of the endangered bird, giving it a new lease on life.
