Nagpur: A 69-year-old woman lost her life in a hit-and-run accident on Amravati Road under the jurisdiction of Wadi police station on Sunday afternoon. The incident occurred around 1 pm near the MIDC T-Point.

According to police, the victim, Vimala Ramdas Meshram, a resident of Bakshi Layout on Khadgaon Road, Wadi, was walking to work after having lunch at her relative’s house when an unidentified vehicle struck her from behind at high speed. The vehicle was allegedly being driven rashly and negligently.

Meshram sustained critical injuries and was immediately taken to the Trauma Centre at Medical Hospital. However, doctors declared her dead during treatment.

Based on a complaint lodged by her nephew, Tirthraj Sadashiv Suryavanshi (44), Wadi police registered a case against the unidentified vehicle driver under Sections 281 and 106(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Further investigation is in progress, and efforts are on to trace the vehicle involved in the fatal accident.
