Nagpur: In a major crackdown aimed at reducing road accidents and bringing road fatalities down to zero, Nagpur City Police has intensified its special drive titled “Operation U-Turn” against motorists driving under the influence of narcotic substances.

As part of the operation, a special checkpoint was set up by NDPS Squad No. 2 near Hotel Pride Chowk in Nagpur city. During the naka checking, police intercepted a suspicious vehicle driver and conducted an on-the-spot examination using advanced Drug Testing Kits recently introduced by the police department.

According to police officials, one of the major causes behind rising road accidents is the consumption of narcotic substances by vehicle drivers. To tackle the issue effectively, Nagpur Police has started using modern drug detection technology capable of instantly determining whether a driver has consumed banned substances.

During the inspection, the driver tested positive for THC, indicating the consumption of cannabis or marijuana. Police stated that driving under the influence of narcotic substances poses a serious threat to public safety and could have resulted in a major road accident.

Following the positive test result, a case has been registered against the accused driver at Sonegaon Police Station for endangering his own life as well as the lives of other commuters by driving under the influence of drugs. The accused has been taken into police custody for further investigation.

Nagpur City Police has appealed to citizens not to drive under the influence of any intoxicating substance and to strictly follow traffic and road safety regulations. Officials also stated that the “Operation U-Turn” campaign will be intensified further in the coming days to prevent road mishaps and save lives.
