Nagpur: Dhantoli police have registered a case against Karan Omprakash Yadav, son of former corporator Munna Yadav, and Rajat Vijay Shahu, operator of Vijay Pro Sound System, for allegedly playing DJ music beyond the prescribed noise limits during a Dahi Handi celebration at Ajni Square.
The event was organised on Wednesday to mark Shri Krishna Janmashtami. According to police, the DJ system was operated at a high volume despite repeated instructions to the organisers and sound system operator to reduce the sound. The programme, which began around 6 pm, also continued beyond the permitted time and was not stopped even after 10 pm, continuing until around 10.45 pm.
Police subsequently measured the sound levels using a sound meter. At 7.49 pm, the equivalent sound level was recorded at 94.8 decibels, while the peak reached 102.4 decibels. A second reading taken at 9.39 pm recorded an equivalent level of 81.2 decibels, with the maximum reaching 96.4 decibels.
Police said the organisers had also been served a written notice before the event regarding restrictions on the use of laser and beam lights.
The case was registered against Yadav and Shahu under relevant provisions concerning violation of noise-control regulations and directions issued by the authorities. Police said action was initiated after repeated instructions to control the volume were allegedly ignored.
