Ambazari Police’s Heroic Act: Man Saved from Suicide at Futala Lake with Citizen’s Help in Nagpur

Nagpur: Demonstrating exceptional duty consciousness and courage, the Ambazari police and a local resident saved the life of a man who attempted suicide by jumping into Futala Lake on Tuesday, February 4.


According to officials, Beat Marshals PC Ujwal Patekar (Badge No. 7031) and PC Vijay Upre (Badge No. 7055) were patrolling the Futala Lake area during their day shift when they received an urgent call from the police control room about a man who had jumped into the lake. Within two to three minutes, the officers reached the Futala immersion point.


Displaying prompt action, the police sought the assistance of a local swimmer, Rupesh Raju Atram, 32, who bravely dived into the water and helped pull the man out. The quick and coordinated efforts of the police and Atram saved the man’s life.


The rescued individual was brought to the Ambazari Police Station, where Senior Police Inspector Vinayak Golhe provided counseling and extended psychological support. The man was later sent to a hospital for further treatment.


In recognition of their brave and selfless act, PI Golhe felicitated Rupesh Atram and the Beat Marshals with cash rewards and commendation. “Thanks to the alertness and courage of the police and Atram, a precious life was saved today,” stated Golhe.


This incident stands as a testament to the police’s vigilance and the community’s spirit in ensuring public safety.
