Nagpur: An eight-year-old girl died after sustaining severe burn injuries when a bucket of hot water accidentally spilled over her at a rented house in the Jaripatka area of Nagpur, police said.

The deceased has been identified as Tejaswini Tejas Aahke (8), a resident of the city. Her father, Tejas Arjun Aahke (40).

According to police, Tejaswini had gone to the bathroom at a rented house in Ashok Nagar, Ambatoli, to clean the toilet. At the same time, there was a power outage.

During the incident, she allegedly accidentally came into contact with a bucket containing hot water that had been kept for bathing. The bucket was knocked over, causing the hot water to spill onto her body.

The girl suffered burns over approximately 66 per cent of her body, including her chest, abdomen, waist, shoulders and legs.

She was immediately rushed to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Nagpur, where she was admitted for treatment. However, despite medical efforts, she died during treatment. The ward’s head officer examined her and declared her dead.

Based on the statement of the girl’s father, Jaripatka police registered an Accidental Death case under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), corresponding to Section 174 of the CrPC.

Police are conducting further inquiry into the incident.
