Nagpur: Wathoda police registered a case against eight persons for allegedly indulging in gambling at an open space near a garbage dumping yard in Pawan Shakti Nagar on Sunday evening.
At around 6.05 pm on January 18, acting on credible information, the investigation team of Wathoda police station conducted a raid at an open area near the dumping yard in Pawan Shakti Nagar, within the police station limits, in the presence of panch witnesses.
During the raid, police caught the accused red-handed while gambling by placing bets using playing cards. The arrested accused have been identified as Roshan Natthuji Wankhede (40), Akash Ramesh Bhonde (28), both residents of Pawan Shakti Nagar; Gulshan Baba Rahate (32) and Suresh Chandandas Rahate (40), residents of old Bagadganj, Nandanvan; Gaurav Shankarlal Chung (32) of Hiwari Layout, Nandanvan; Pankaj Mohan Chaudhary (34) of Pawan Shakti Nagar, Wathoda; Vicky Baba Rahate (36); and Rohit Bharat Bais (34), both residents of old Bagadganj, Nagpur.
Police seized Rs 2,340 in cash, mobile phones, playing cards, and other gambling materials, with the total seized property valued at Rs 30,340.
A case has been registered against all eight accused at Wathoda police station under Section 12(A) of the Maharashtra Gambling Prevention Act. Further investigation is underway.
The operation was carried out under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner of Police Niketan Kadam and Assistant Commissioner of Police Rohit Oval, by PSI Harish Borade and his investigation team.
