Nagpur: As excitement builds for the India vs England One Day International (ODI) match in Nagpur, scammers have found new ways to exploit cricket fans eager to witness the live action. Despite the Vidarbha Cricket Association (VCA) selling tickets exclusively online to curb black marketing, fraudulent activities have surged, including the circulation of fake tickets on social media and exorbitant resale prices.

Fake Tickets Circulated Online:

Scammers are now using photoshopped ticket images and fake online ticket vouchers to trick unsuspecting fans. Desperate cricket enthusiasts, scrambling to secure entry, have reportedly fallen prey to these fraudulent schemes, with some purchasing fake tickets before realizing the scam.

Hingna Resident Falls Victim to Ticket Fraud:

In a recent incident, a resident from Hingna was duped by two individuals who offered ₹800 tickets for ₹2,000 each. After the victim requested four tickets, the scammers demanded a ₹500 advance and scanned ₹3,000 from his account. One of the fraudsters promised to return with the tickets while the other distracted the victim and fled the scene.

When the duo did not return, the victim contacted the number used during the transaction but was met with threats. He promptly reported the incident to police personnel nearby. When the police attempted to contact the suspects, they were met with abusive language. A formal complaint was lodged following the incident.

Police Advice:

Nagpur Police have urged cricket fans to remain vigilant, purchase tickets only from authorized sources, and report any fraudulent activities to the police immediately.
