Nagpur: Acting on a tip-off, the Crime Branch’s Social Security Branch (SSB) arrested a 35-year-old man from Nandanvan area of Nagpur for illegal possession of a firearm and live ammunition. The operation was carried out in the early hours of November 11, 2025, between 12:10 am and 1:55 am, near JL Chaturvedi College, Nandanvan.
The accused has been identified as Chaitanya alias Chintu Ramkrishna Dangre (35), a resident of House No. 1444, New Nandanvan Layout, behind JL Chaturvedi College, within Nandanvan Police Station limits. During a house search, the police recovered one firearm with a magazine worth ₹50,000, one live cartridge valued at ₹1,000, and a mobile phone worth ₹10,000, bringing the total seized value to ₹61,000.
Following the seizure, the accused was taken into custody and medically examined before being handed over to Nandanvan Police Station for further investigation. A case has been registered under Crime No. 570/2025, Sections 3/25 of the Arms Act, read with Section 135 of the Bombay Police Act.
The operation was executed under the supervision of Police Inspector Rahul Shire from the Social Security Branch, along with API Nannavare, WHC Aarti, NPC Sesrao Raut, PC Ashvin Mange, PC Sameer Sheikh, PC Nitin Wasne, and PC Kunal Bodkhe. Police sources said the action is part of the ongoing drive against illegal weapons under the city police’s intensified crime control initiative.
