Nagpur: In a major crackdown on illegal liquor smuggling under ‘Operation Satark,’ the Railway Protection Force (RPF) successfully seized illicit liquor at Nagpur and Chandrapur railway stations, further strengthening security measures across Central Railway’s Nagpur Division.
At Nagpur RPF Post, during routine surveillance, a narcotics team led by Inspector Nagpur, along with personnel A. Ravindra Joshi, A. Ashish Kumar, and M. A. Kavita Kupale, detected a suspicious blue and white bag under berth number 57 in Coach S4 of Train No. 12616 upon its arrival at Platform No. 2 at 10:52 AM. Upon inquiry, a passenger claimed ownership of the bag and admitted that it contained liquor bottles. Upon opening the bag, twenty bottles of foreign liquor were recovered, including five bottles of 100 Pipers (750ml) valued at ₹12,500 and fifteen bottles of Old Smuggler (750ml) valued at ₹10,500. The total estimated value of the seized liquor amounted to ₹23,000 as per Maharashtra liquor regulations. Following due legal procedures, the seized liquor was handed over to the State Excise Department, Nagpur. A case was registered under Crime No. 100/2025, under Section 65(E) of the Maharashtra Prohibition Act.
At Chandrapur RPF Post, during routine patrolling at Chandrapur railway yard, RPF personnel including Sub-Inspector Sachin Nagpure, A. Sumit, and D. P. Inspector Abhijit Lichade discovered an unclaimed bag near the Nagpur end of the yard. Upon investigation and after questioning nearby individuals, no one claimed ownership of the bag.
The bag was brought to the RPF post and examined in the presence of witnesses. A total of 300 pouches of illicit country liquor, Rocket Desi Daru (90ml each), were found inside the bag, with an estimated market value of ₹10,500. The liquor was seized, and the case was transferred to the State Excise Department, Chandrapur, under Crime No. 23/2025, registered under Section 65(E) of the Mumbai Prohibition Act.
The proactive efforts of the RPF officers and staff in curbing illegal liquor smuggling were commendable, reflecting their commitment to maintaining safety and security in railway premises. Central Railway Nagpur Division continues to ensure stringent enforcement against unauthorized activities to provide a safe and secure environment for passengers.
