Nagpur: After violent clashes erupted in Nagpur, leading to attacks on police personnel and communal tensions, the Nagpur Police Commissioner has lifted the curfew in some areas while maintaining restrictions in others. The updated order in this regard was issued by police on late Thursday, March 20 night. The unrest, triggered by a protest demanding the removal of Aurangzeb’s tomb, escalated into stone-pelting incidents, prompting strict law enforcement measures.
Curfew Updates: Areas Affected & Restrictions Lifted
To restore order, Police Commissioner Dr. Ravindra Kumar Singhal invoked Section 163 (1), (2), (3) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023.
• Curfew lifted from March 20, 2025, 2:00 PM in:
• Zone 4: Nandanvan Police Station limits.
• Zone 5: Kapilnagar Police Station limits.
• Curfew remains in effect in key areas until further notice:
• Zone 3: Kotwali, Ganeshpeth, Tehsil, Lakadganj, Pachpaoli, Shantinagar.
• Zone 4: Sakkardara, Imamwada.
• Zone 5: Yashodharanagar.
Legal Consequences & Exceptions:
Violators will face action under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS), 2023.
Exemptions apply to police personnel, government officials, emergency services, firefighters, and students appearing for exams.
The police continue to monitor high-risk areasto prevent further violence, ensuring strict action against those disrupting law and order.
