Nagpur: The Unit 4 of the Nagpur Crime Branch late Monday night apprehended Surendrakumar Rampati Yadav, one of the five suspects accused of killing notorious goon Sheikh Haji Baba Sheikh Sarwar in Chandrapur earlier that day.

The accused, Surendrakumar (36), is a resident of Plot No. 86, Darshan Colony, Nandanvan. According to police, the Crime Branch received a tip-off regarding Surendrakumar’s involvement in Sarwar’s murder. Following this, the cops laid a trap and nabbed the accused.

It may be recalled that Sarwar was brutally killed after being shot and stabbed by his assailants at Hotel Shahi Darbar in the Binba Gate locality on Monday afternoon. After being hit by two bullets, Sarwar ran towards the hotel's kitchen, where he was attacked with a knife. As he collapsed, his throat was slit with the knife. One of Sarwar's accomplices was also hit by a bullet. Sarwar was rushed to the district hospital, where doctors declared him dead. Frequent gunfire incidents have raised questions about the efficiency of the police. The police have arrested five persons in connection with Monday’s incident.

Sarwar had gone to Hotel Shahi Darbar with his accomplices for a meal. While they were eating, unidentified attackers opened fire. Sarwar, who was hit by two bullets, ran towards the kitchen of the hotel. The attackers chased him, stabbed him, and as Sarwar bled profusely, he collapsed on the floor. The attackers then slit his throat and fled the scene. The hotel staff informed the police, who arrived at the scene. Locals took Sarwar to the district hospital, where he was declared brought dead.

Chandrapur SP Mummka Sudarshan, DySP Rina Janbandhu, Local Crime Branch Inspector Kondawar, City Police Station Inspector Prabhavati Ekurke, and Ramnagar Police Station Inspector Asif Raja Sheikh, along with their teams, reached the site.
