Nagpur: In a shocking incident of instant rage, a 19-year-old BSc student allegedly stabbed a 35-year-old scrap worker to death following a minor argument in Rahul Nagar, under the jurisdiction of Dhantoli police station, on Sunday night, March 16.
The deceased has been identified as Ankush Devgirikar (35), a worker at a local scrap shop. The accused, Ayush Mandape (19), is a BSc student. Both were residents of Rahul Nagar.
According to police, the incident occurred after a petty argument between the two, who were reportedly intoxicated on Sunday night. During the altercation, Devgirikar grabbed Mandape’s collar, which infuriated him. In a fit of rage, Mandape went inside his house, picked up a kitchen knife, and stabbed Devgirikar around 11 PM.
Mandape fled the scene, leaving Devgirikar in a pool of blood. Locals alerted the police, and the Dhantoli police apprehended Mandape on charges of attempted murder. Meanwhile, Devgirikar was rushed to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in a critical condition, where he succumbed to his injuries on Monday morning, March 17.
Following his death, Dhantoli police upgraded the charges to murder and formally placed Mandape under arrest. The investigation is ongoing.
