Nagpur: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) in Nagpur apprehended an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) from MIDC Police Station while accepting a ₹30,000 bribe here, on Thursday, March 27. The official allegedly demanded the bribe to refrain from taking legal action against a complainant in a fraud case under investigation.

Bribe Demand and Sting Operation:

According to ACB officials, the complainant, a 31-year-old resident of Nagpur, was being investigated by the accused officer, identified as ASI Ravindra Manohar Sakhare (54), regarding a fraud complaint. Sakhare allegedly sought ₹30,000 to ensure that no legal proceedings or criminal charges were initiated against the complainant.

Following a verification process on March 26-27, the ACB set up a trap on March 27, 2025, during which Sakhare was caught red-handed accepting the bribe amount. The entire ₹30,000 was recovered from his possession.

Legal Action and Investigation:

The accused officer has been taken into custody, and the process of registering a case at MIDC Police Station is underway. Senior ACB officials, including Superintendent of Police Dr. Digambar Pradhan, Additional SP Sanjay Purandare, and Deputy SP Roshan Yadav, supervised the operation.

The trap and investigation team was led by Police Inspector Ashish Chaudhary, with assistance from Police Inspector Varsha Mate and other officers.
