Nagpur: The Yashodharanagar Police arrested a 25-year-old man late on Thursday for allegedly carrying a sharp weapon while moving suspiciously near a mosque in the Azri–Majri area.
Between 9 pm and 10 pm on December 11, a patrolling unit spotted an individual acting suspiciously near Medina Masjid on an Activa moped (MH-49 BG-6089). The man was intercepted and identified as Mohammad Soheb alias Lala Mohammad Aqil, a resident of Rehmat Nagar in Yashodharanagar.
A search conducted in the presence of panch witnesses led to the recovery of a sharp iron knife worth ₹500 from the vehicle’s storage compartment. Police seized the knife along with the moped, collectively valued at around ₹30,000.
Officials stated that the accused was allegedly in possession of the weapon with the intention to commit a cognizable offence, thereby violating prohibitory orders. An offence has been registered under Sections 4 and 25 of the Arms Act, along with Section 135 of the Maharashtra Police Act. The accused has been arrested, and further investigation is ongoing.
