Officials have also cracked down on unlicensed weapons, seizing 1,294 illegal firearms since the implementation of the code. Furthermore, preventive action under the BNSS Act has been taken against 46,630 individuals across the state, underscoring the state’s commitment to ensuring a secure and fair election process.
It is pertinent to mention that, Nagpur has over 2,100 licensed firearm holders, including prominent political figures, builders, doctors, and traders across Vidarbha. These individuals hold arms primarily for self-defense. The regulation mandates that private license holders surrender their weapons during election periods to prevent potential misuse and intimidation of voters. As of now, approximately 1,500 individuals have complied by submitting their weapons to the Police Commissionerate, with local police stations conducting ongoing reviews of license holders.
The law enforcement agencies affirmed that strict vigilance will continue to uphold safety and order during the election period.
