Nagpur: After earning accolades for its unique ‘One Tree, One Cop’ initiative, Gittikhadan police station has once again made a significant mark by becoming the first in the city to implement an efficient crime record management system. The station has digitally cataloged 25 years of records, enabling access to crucial data in under five minutes.

Led by Police Inspector (PI) Kailash Deshmane, the crime records from 2001 to 2025 were meticulously reorganized in just two weeks. The files have been categorized into “A” and “B” sections and stored in specially designed durable bags, each assigned a serial number from 1 to 150 for easy identification.

“To further streamline operations, we created an Excel sheet cataloging the contents of each bag, which allows personnel to retrieve case or administrative files in less than five minutes, significantly enhancing efficiency,” PI Deshmane said.

The new storage bags, which were designed under police supervision, are more robust and visually appealing compared to traditional storage boxes. “This thoughtful design ensures the long-term preservation of critical documents and simplifies administrative tasks,” Deshmane added.

The reorganization has also freed up substantial space within the crime room, creating a cleaner and more efficient work environment.

Model Initiative Praised by Senior Officials

Commissioner of Police Dr. Ravinder Kumar Singal and Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 2) Rahul Madane praised the initiative, emphasizing how meticulous record-keeping enhances operational efficiency and accountability.

This forward-thinking approach follows Gittikhadan police station’s much-lauded ‘One Tree, One Cop’ initiative, where each staff member was assigned a plant named after them. The dual achievements highlight the station’s commitment to both innovation and environmental consciousness, setting a benchmark for other police stations in the region.
