Nagpur: Kalamna police arrested a man for illegally transporting five bulls for slaughter in a cruel and inhumane manner here, on Tuesday, March 11.
The suspect, identified as Surendra Shankar Lanjewar (30), a resident of Kondhakosara, Bhandara district, was caught red-handed during a police patrol on Chikhli Road, near Kalamna Market.
Acting on a tip-off, the police stopped a white Bolero Max pickup truck (MH-32-AJ-4913) and found five bulls cruelly bound and stuffed into the vehicle. The driver failed to produce any legal documents for the transportation of the cattle.
Police have seized the vehicle and rescued the bulls, which have been sent to Radhakrishna Saidham Gaushala in Bidgaon. The estimated value of the seized assets, including the vehicle, is ₹9.7 lakh.
A case has been registered under Sections 11(1)(d), 11(1)(e) of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960, along with Sections 83 and 177 of the Maharashtra Police Act. The accused has been arrested, and further investigations are underway.
