Nagpur: The vigilance of beat marshals attached to Wathoda Police Station helped foil a house burglary attempt in Nagpur, leading to the arrest of a habitual property offender and the recovery of stolen jewellery and cash worth over ₹1.06 lakh.

According to police sources, the incident came to light during a routine night patrol when Beat Marshals Constable Sanju Thakre and Constable Shashikant Patole noticed suspicious activity at a locked house near Anandsagar Lawn in Maa Chandika Nagar. Sensing something unusual, the officers immediately informed the night-duty officer, PSI Pawar, and proceeded to inspect the premises.

Upon reaching the spot, police found that the main gate of the house was locked from outside, but the lock on the front door had been broken and the door was bolted from inside. This raised strong suspicion that an intruder was hiding inside the house. Using the registration number of a two-wheeler parked within the premises, police traced the homeowner's contact details through the Naka Bandi application and informed him about the situation. The homeowner confirmed that he was out of town at the time.

The police team, with assistance from local residents, surrounded the house and conducted a search operation. During the operation, they successfully apprehended the suspected burglar hiding inside the residence and brought him to Wathoda Police Station for questioning.

The accused has been identified as Sushant Ashok Thool (30), a resident of Shivaji Nagar, Ward No. 2, Ralegaon in Yavatmal district. Police records indicate that he is a known property offender with multiple criminal cases registered against him in the past.

During a search of the accused, police recovered two silver anklets weighing approximately 40 grams valued at around ₹20,000, a silver bracelet weighing approximately 10 grams worth ₹5,000, a gold necklace weighing around 20 grams valued at ₹80,000, and cash amounting to ₹1,500. The total value of the seized property is estimated at ₹1,06,500.

Police officials credited the successful operation to the alertness and quick response of the beat marshals on night patrol. A criminal case is being registered, and further investigation is underway.

Investigations revealed that the accused has a long criminal history involving theft, housebreaking, and other property-related offences. Previous cases against him have been registered at Jaripatka, Pachpaoli, Sitabuldi, and Ajni police stations under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, Arms Act, and Maharashtra Police Act.

The arrest is being viewed as a significant success for Wathoda Police, highlighting the importance of proactive patrolling and community vigilance in preventing property crimes.
